BUSTED!! Goats on the Lamb Captured on Route 128

Two of my goats left our pasture on Friday, December 11th. After heading down our driveway, and crossing Huntley Rd, they traveled across the Brown's River and up onto Route 128. After hanging out for a while with some horses, they decided to travel North to Fairfax. Since neither of them ever passed their drivers license, they failed to realize they did not have the right of way on Route 128.
So, after traveling a distance down the center of the road, some concerned citizens stopped their cars and pulled them over off the road. Bill Stygles , the animal control officer in Fairfax, took control of them and kept them safe until I finally got word of their situation on Sunday.
I would like to give my personal thanks to the following people,
  • Everyone who read and passed along my post on Front Porch Forum (cdzgang )
  • Henry Raymond, who maintains a wonderful website which contained a blog about my wandering girls.
  • Bill Stygles , who drove all the way from Fletcher to take care of my girls which he did out of his own personal time!!!!Thanks again Bill.
  • To the user name "catvet" who were in one of the vehicles which stopped on route 128 to get my goats off the road.
  • To all those concerned citizens who took the time to pull over and help keep my girls safe.

Thanks again one and all!

Where has the time gone???

OMG! Where HAS the time gone? It's already Dec. 7th and I've been quite lax on my blogging duties!
I would just like to give everyone an update on Lucky's status. You remember Lucky, the unlucky little doggie who gave me a real nice bite on my hand this past summer? He is enjoying his first X-mas in his new home. They state he has become quite the clown, and I am so happy for him!
The young Lab/Terrier mix, named Tipper, is officially our #6 doggie. He is a real lover, but still chases my geese. I did pick up a stray cat awhile ago who has not been able to find a new home. We never did give him a proper name, calling him only "No-Name". I'm hoping someone decides to give this guy a chance, otherwise he'll be our kitty #2.
I hope everyone enjoys the coming holiday season.

Catching up on old news

Whippet Mix Found and Adopted.

A wonderful whippet mix named "tipper" was voluntarily handed over to me after he had bit a child. While he needed some retraining, overall he is a wonderful little man. Already neutered, extremely friendly and FAST, he quickly found a place for himself in our hearts as well as our home. We've decided to adopt him for ourselves, making the number of dogs in our pack to six.

I have yet to see any evidence of the aggression he displayed previously, and he has integrated very well with the other dogs in the house. He still wants to chase the cow/goats, and occasionally is tempted by our chickens. But on the whole, he is responding well to his new environment.

Tramautized Dog Found and Adopted

This little black lab mix, 8 months old and intact, was taken from the home of a dog hoarder. He came to me absolutely tramautized, untrained, filthy, and ready to bite. As a matter of fact, he did catch my hand a few days later, required a trip to the ER and a bottle of antibiodics for me. In all my previous cases, I've been able to assess the problem, obtain the dogs trust and loyality, and modify any bad behaviour. But in this case I proved to be totally unprepared and unable to help this little guy.

I posted an ad for help on craigslist and petfinder.com, and luckily a certified dog trainer came up to the plate to offer her help. I am glad to report, that only after a few hours of work, they were able to bring the little guy out of his shell, and begin working on obtaining his trust and love. They have decided to adopt him for themselves. The little guy is named "Lucky".

Chihuahua finds a home

The little chihuahua has found a home! My hubby was alittle upset, since he really wanted to keep him for ourselves, but I decided against it. The last word I received from his new owners is that he has adjusted extremely well to his new home, and they are very happy at their decision to take him in.

You Break It, You Buy It!

We had a bit of an unfortunate incident here at the Town Impound. The little chihuahua we were holding got into alittle "skiff" with the other stray we picked up. Well, the little guy got the worse of it, and wound up suffering from a separated elbow and a bite above and below his right eye.
We took him to B.E.V. and had a splint put on his leg. Needless to say, the bills for this little guy are stacking up, and will only get higher and higher. I seriously doubt that I will find anyone willing to adopt him AND pay for his medical bills,,,,,,,so I quess what,,,,
Let me introduce you to our newest doggie,,,,,

He will be doggie #6 for us. My hubby is calling him "D-K" (short for drop-kick. Crude,,,I know,,but he thinks it's cute)

A New Dog Pending Adoption

Just a "heads-up" on the latest doggie who will be spending some time at the Westford Dog Pound. This litle guy is called "Tipper", and he appears to be a Terrier/Whippet mix breed. He is about 35lbs and is just over a year old. He was given up by his family after a biting incident involving their 6 yr old child. He is currently being evaluated for behavioral issues, and I can already see he not only displays food aggression but also resource guarding as well as some other traits.
He is neutered and up to date with all of his shots, but he is not currently available for adoption until his evaluation period is over. Depending upon what I find, he may need more time to rehabilitate or I may offer him up for adoption only to experienced dog owners with no small children.
I will update the blogsite as more details become available.

Stinky is now "Jetty"

I just came back from dropping off Stinky to his new home in Cape May, NJ. He looks like he's having a grand ole time taking walks along the Jersey Shore! He has been renamed "Jetty", by his new family, and I wish them the best of luck.
