Cocoa Updates

We have just discovered that Cocoa is actually only 9 months old, according to his Vet Records. He has made a great deal of progress since arriving here. He has accepted us as being the alpha's of our pack, and does not growl, snarl, or even put up a fight when ever we take away his bones. This is an extremely important milestone for him!
He has also learned to stay off the couches. He is not allowed in any of our rooms alone, this way he is under constant supervision. He still does not ask to be let outside, but he now responds to the verbal cues of "Outside?".
He still has some aggression issues with one of my dogs, but it is diminishing. I feel confident that it won't be long before learns everything he needs inorder to find his lifelong human companion.

Wow! IT's amazing that you were able to make that much progress with a dog.

I'm probably getting a dog in the spring. Do you recommend any specific books for learning techniques for training doggies?

There are so many different opinions on how to train dogs. But personally speaking, I like the techniques used by Cesar Millan. (http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/)

He has a show which airs on The National Geographic Channel, Friday nights at 8pm. Usually, they are meant to rehabilitate problem dogs, but watching the shows really helps to illustrate how inexperienced dog owners can create problem dogs.

But in addition to that, you should really take your puppy to a puppy training class. I took my shephard to one at Canine Companions in Essex Junction. It not only helps out the dog, but it also trains the owners on how to train the dog, and most importantly it will help to socialize the puppy to interact with other dogs properly
